This week K-Drama casting news: (January: 3 weeks)

As you guys know, I always post casting news on my twitter but since the tweet doesn’t allow me to writer more details, other than the actors, drama name, date, etc. Also some could miss seeing the news. So I decided to make this segment where I will summarize all week casting news with more details! What do you think?

So It’s been 3 weeks or more since January started, that’s why today I will be posting all the casting news that happened in the meantime. But starting from next time, It will be weekly! Let’ start!

My Country:

Seolhyun in talks for JTBC’s upcoming sageuk drama My Country along with Yang Se Jong & Woo Do Hwan.

The drama will be written by Chae Seung Dae (Inspiring Generation, Master: God of Noodles) and directed by Kim Jin Won PD (The Innocent Man, Just Between Lovers, etc). It’s set during the end of the Goryeo period to the early Joseon period. It follows the story of two friends, Seo Hwi (Yang Se Jong) is a warrior who can’t stand injustice & Nam Sun-Ho (Woo Do-Hwan) is smart and a talented figure, he wants to pass the military service exam, but corruption by his father create misunderstandings between the two and it affects their friendship. Seolhyun will play as a woman skilled in martial arts.

The drama will air in the second half of the year.

Special Labor Inspector Jo Jang Poong:

Kim Dong Wook, Park Se Young, Ryu Deok Hwan, Kim Kyung Nam, Seol In Ah & Oh Dae Hwan confirmed for MBC’s upcoming drama ‘Special Labor Inspector Jo Jang Poong‘.

The drama is written by Kim Ban Di (Angry Mom) & Directed by Park Won Gook (Ruler: Master Of the Mask) and it tells the story of Jo Jin Gab (Kim Dong Wook) who he once was a promising judo athlete. He protested against corruption at a game and he was kicked out of the sport. After that, he became a gym teacher. but once again, he couldn’t control his anger against the son of the school’s chairman. So he got kicked out of his profession.

Jo Jin-Gab then successfully pass the exam to become a public officer. Working as a public officer, he does not have to worry about being kicked out of his job. He tries to live peacefully, but he is then transferred to work as a labor inspector at the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Facing many people who wield their power unjustly, Jo Jin-Gab reverts back to his old self.

The drama will in the spring.

Beautiful World:

Lee Ji Hyun confirmed for JTBC’s upcoming drama ‘Beautiful World’ along with Park Hee Soon & Cho Yeo Jeong.

The drama will be directed by Park Chan Hong PD and written by Kim Ji Woo (Memory, Don’t Look back). It tells the story of Park Moo-Jin (Park Hee Soon) and Kang In-Ha (Choo Ja Hyun) who are a married couple. Park Moo Jin works as a high school teacher and Kang In Ha runs a bakery. They enjoy their lives with their children. Their peaceful days soon turn into a hellish experience. Their son, who is in the 3rd grade of middle school, is seriously injured due to school violence. Park Moo Jin and Kang In Ha try to reveal the truth.

Meanwhile, Oh Jin-Pyo (Oh Man Seok) and Seo Eun-Joo (Cho Yeo Jeong) are a married couple. They are both from wealthy families. Oh Jin Pyo is the chairman of a private school foundation inherited from his family. They have never experienced failure or lacked anything. They have a son who makes trouble. The parents cover up for their son’s misbehavior.

The drama will air in April 2019.

Mung Bean Flower:

Jo Jung Suk, Han Ye Ri, Yoon Si Yoon, Min Sung Wook & Park Hyuk Kwon confirmed for SBS’s upcoming drama
Mung Bean Flower.

The drama be directed Shin Kyung So PD (Six Flying Dragons) & written by Jung Hyun Min (Asssembly). It’s set during the Donghak Peasant Revolution which took place from 1894-1895. Two half-brothers fight on opposite sides of this rebellion. Baek Yi-Kang (Jo Jung Suk) is the first son of an important family. His father is wealthy and he is notorious as a local government officer. But, Yi-Kang’s mother is from the the lowest class. Due to his mother’s low social class, people look down on him. Song Ja-In (Han Ye Ri) is the only daughter for the head of a large peddlers group. She is the owner of Jeonjoo Yeokak, which sells merchandise and is also an inn. She has courage, stays calm under pressure and has charisma. She dreams of becoming the best merchant in Joseon. Baek Yi-Hyun (Yoon Si Yoon) is Yi-Kang’s younger half-brother. He is smart, handsome and polite. Unlike Yi-Kang, Baek Yi-Hyun was not born out of wedlock. Yi-Hyun has everything and he treats his half-brother politely.

The drama is scheduled to be broadcast in the first half of 2019.

Designated Survivor:

Ji Jin Hee confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama Designated Survivor a remake of American drama.

The drama is directed by Yoo Jung Sun PD (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and written by Kim Tae Hee (Beautiful Mind). It tells the story of Park Moo Jin, a former professor of chemistry and now holds the Minister of Environment position. He doesn’t have ambition, personal beliefs or political sense as a politician. One day, high ranking government officers are gathered for the President’s State of the Union address. An explosion then takes place, killing many government officials, including the President. He is the highest ranking government officer left alive. He doesn’t want the position, but he must sit as the acting president for 60 days. He chases after the person or group responsible for the explosion and he grows as a national leader.

The drama is expected to air in the first half of this year.

Blue Eyes:

Jang Ki Yong and Nana confirmed for OCN’s upcoming drama Blue Eyes.

The drama is directed by Nam Sung Woo PD (100 Days My Prince) and written by Son Hyun Soo & Choi Myung Jin. It tells the story of Kim Soo Hyun (Jang Ki Yong), an elite assassin. He kills his targets and disappears. His identity like race, age or name is unknown to others. Every organizations from all over the world wants to hire him. Do Hyun Jin (Nana) graduated at the top of her class from a police university. She is an excellent detective who is also arrogant. They come across each other, but
Do Hyun Jin starts to sympathize Kim Soo Hyun.

The drama will follow ‘Trap’ in March.

Confession:

Lee Jun Ho, Yoo Jae Myung, Shin Hyun Bin, Tae In Ho, Jun Suk Ho, Nam Ki Ae & Yoon Kyung Ho confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Confession‘.

The drama is directed by Kim Cheol Kyu PD (Mother, Chicago Typewriter) and written by Im Hee Cheol. It tells the story of a case involving the hidden truth behind the law prohibiting double jeopardy. When Choi Do Hyun (Lee Jun Ho) was a boy, he had a heart disease. He spent most of his childhood in a hospital. He miraculously had a chance for a heart transplant. Right after the successful of the surgery, his father was accused of murder, he received the death penalty. To investigate his father’s case, Choi Do Hyun now works as a lawyer.

The drama will air in March.

Eulachacha Waikiki Season 2:

Lee Yi Kyung, Ahn So Hee, Kim Seon Ho, Moon Ga Young, Shin Hyun Soo & Kim Ye Won confirmed for JTBC’s upcoming drama ‘Eulachacha Waikiki 2’.

The drama will be directed and written by the same PD & Writer of Season 1. It will tell the story of Lee Joon Ki (Lee Yi Kyung), an unpopular actor. He runs the guest house Waikiki, but the guest house is facing bankruptcy. To revive the guest house, Lee Joon-Ki drags his friends Cha Woo-Sik (Kim Sun Ho), a picky person who wants to become a singer and Kook Ki Bong (Shin Hyun Soo), He used to be a promising baseball player but he now plays in the minor leagues. They all graduated from the same high school. Along with these 3 men, Han Soo Yeon (Moon Ga Young), Kim Jung Eun (Ahn So Hee) and Cha Yoo Ri (Kim Ye Won) all begin to live at Waikiki.

The drama will air in the first half of this year.

Doctor Prisoner:

Nam Goong Min, Kim Byung Chul & Nara confirmed for KBS’s upcoming drama ‘Doctor Prisoner’.

The drama will be directed by Hwang In Hyuk PD (Assembly) & Written by Park Kye Ok (Inspiring Generation). It tells the story of Na Yi Je (Nam Goong Min), a surgeon with excellent skills and has a kind personality. He gets involved in a medical accident which he did not cause. The medical accident leads him to get kicked out of the hospital where he works. He then begins work as the chief of a prison medical clinic.

The drama will follow ‘Whats Wrong Poong Sang’ in March.

Abyss:

Ahn Hyo Seop is positively reviewing the offer from tvN’s upcoming drama Abyss along with Park Bo Young.

The drama is directed by Yoo Je Won PD (Oh My Ghost) & Written by Moon Soo Yun (Ugly Young A). It tells the story of a beautiful female prosecutor and an ugly man’s appearance are completely changed. The prosecutor changes from beautiful to common looking and the ugly man changes to a handsome man. Because of the change, the prosecutor investigates on what happened. She finds true love during the process.

The drama will air in the first half of this year.

Hotel Del Luna:

IU is positively reviewing the offer from tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Hotel Del Luna‘.

The drama will be directed by Oh Choong Hwan PD (While You Were Sleeping) & Written by Hong Sisters (Hwayugi). It tells the story of a man who began working Hotel del Luna as a manager due to an unexpected case. Jang Man Wol is the hotel CEO, she is beautiful but she is not nice to others. She made a big mistake many years ago and because of that she has been under a curse for over a 1,000 years.

The drama will follow ‘Asadal Chronicles’ in August.

Spring Night:

Son Ye Jin & Jung Hae In offered to star in MBC’s upcoming drama ‘Spring Night‘.

The drama will be directed and written by the same PD and writer as ‘Something in the Rain’. It will tell the story of a couple who has been together for a long time. When the topic of marriage comes up, they begin to re-evaluate their relationship. It gets more complicated when potential new love interests appear, and they start to realize what their true feelings are.

The drama will air in May.

Voice Season 3:

Lee Ha Na confirmed for OCN’s upcoming drama Voice season 3. Lee Jin Wook is still reviewing the offer.

The drama will be written by the same writer of the previous seasons and the story will pick were it left in season 2. It will air in May.

I Loved You From The Beginning:

Kim Young Kwang, Jin Ki Joo, Kim Jae Kyung & Mu Jin Sung confirmed for SBS’s upcoming drama ‘I loved you from the Beginning‘.

The drama is directed by Lee Gwang Young PD and written by Kim A Jung (Queen Of Ring). It tells a romance story between Do Min Ik (Kim Young Kwang), a director of the mobile media 1 team at T&T. He is smart and excellent at his job, and Jung Gal Hee (Jin Ki Joo) Do Min Ik’s secretary. She looks soft, but she hides her tough side.

The drama will air in May.

Moment of Eighteen:

Ong Seong Woo, Kim Hyang Gi & Shin Seung Ho confirmed for JTBC’s upcoming drama ‘Moment of Eighteen’.

The drama will be directed by Sim Na Yeon PD (School of Hip Hop) & Written by Yoon Kyung Ah (Girls’ Generation 1979). It will tell the story of 18-year-old Choi Joon Woo (Ong Seong Woo), He is not good at expressing his emotions, but he has a cute side. He transfers to a new school where he meets Yoo Soo Bin (Kim Hyang Gi). She is a top student, but her life is controlled by her mother. She dreams of becoming independent. After meeting Choi Joon Woo, she starts to experience small changes in her life. Meanwhile, Ma Whi Young (Shin Seung Ho) is a student who seems perfect and gentle, but he suffers from a complex. After Choi Joon Woo transfers to his school, his life begins to change.

The drama will air n the second half of the year.

Dan, Only Love:

Lee Dong Gun confirmed for KBS’s upcoming drama ‘Dan Only Love’ along with Shin Hye Sun & Kim Myung Soo. 

The drama is directed by Lee Jung Sub PD (Queen For 7 days) and written by Choi Yoon Kyo (Lucky Romance). It will tell the story of an angel called Dan, He is a troublemaker and also an optimist. He receives a mission. If he succeeds, he can return to Heaven. His mission is to find true love for Yeon Seo, a ballerina who does not believe in love, but Dan end up falling in love with her.

The drama will air in May 2019.

My Prettiest Daughter In The World:

Yoo Sun, Kim So Yeon, Kim Ha Kyung, Hong Jong Hyun & Ki Tae Youngconfirmed for KBS’s upcoming weekend drama ‘
My Prettiest Daughter In The World.

The drama will be directed by Kim Jong Chan PD (Miss Mamma Mia) and written by Jo Jung Sun (Father, I’ll take care of you). It will tell the story of Park Sun Ja and her three daughters.

The drama will air in March.

Her Private Life:

Kim Jae Wook & Park Min Young positively reviewing the offer from tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Her Private Life’.

The drama is directed by Hong Jang Chan PD (Dear My friends, Life). It’s based on a popular web novel about a woman and a man who both lead double lives called Noona Fan Dot Com and it’s written by Kim Sung Yeon.

The drama will air in April.
