This week K-Drama casting news: (02.18~02.24)

So many casting news have happened this week! A lot of our favorite are coming back and I really can’t wait for most of these drama! Let’s get started!

When Camellia Blooms:

Gong Hyo Jin & Kang Ha Neul in talk for KBS’s upcoming drama ‘When Camellia Blooms’.

The drama will be written by Im Sang Choon (Fight My Way) and directed by Cha Young Hoon PD (Are you Human too?), It’s a romance thriller, comedy revolving around a woman and three men. Gong Hyo Jin has been offered the leading role of Dong Baek, who runs a drinking establishment called Camellia and Kang Ha Neul has received the offer to play Yong Shik, who is a neighborhood policeman in love with Dong Baek. He is a guy from the countryside who is simple, honest, and naive but also has some sexiness.

The drama will air in the second half of 2019.

My Fellow Citizens:

Ji Eui Soo confirmed for KBS’s upcoming drama My Fellow Citizens along with Choi Si Won & Lee Yoo Young.

The drama will be directed by Kim Jung Hyun PD and written by Han Jung Hoon (Bad Guys), It tells the story of Yang Jung Kook (Choi Si Won), a veteran conman, but he has never been arrested. One day, his girlfriend suddenly runs off with the money they were going to use for their marriage. Yang Jung Kook is extremely upset and he goes out to drink. He meets Kim Mi Young (Lee Yoo Young), a girl who has been through a hard time because of her boyfriend’s cheating ways. Yang Jung Kook tells her that he runs a business and Kim Mi Young tells him that she works for a small company. Kim Mi Young is actually a detective. They find comfort with each other and they develop a relationship romantically. On their wedding day, Kim Mi Young reveals to Yang Jung-Kook that she is actually a detective. Meanwhile, Park Hoo-Ja (Kim Min Jung) is a mysterious woman. She runs a private loan business that she inherited from her father. Her father was swindled by Yang Jung Kook. Park Hoo Ja finds Yang Jung-Kook and blackmails him into running for a national assembly seat.

The drama will air on March 25.

WWW:

Im Soo Jung confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama WWW.

The drama will be directed by Jung Ji Hyun PD and written by Kwon Eu Sol, It tells the story of Bae Ta-Mi, she works as a director for a big web portal company. She is in her late 30’s and is quite competitive. With her competitiveness, she enjoys success. The methods she uses to win has her wondering if she is doing the right thing with her life. Has she sacrificed too much of her personal life for success?

The drama will be broadcast in the first half of 2019.

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryun:

Shin Se Kyung confirmed for MBC’s upcoming sageuk drama ‘Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryun‘ & Lee Ji Hoon is positively reviewing the offer.

The drama will tell the story of women in the 19th century who were frowned upon for writing historical records despite being female. The drama will fight against outdated prejudice on the basis of gender and social status and show the value of change. On top of telling survival stories of female intern historians at the palace, it will also show the romance that blossoms between Prince Yi Rim and historian Goo Hae Ryung.

The drama will follow ‘Spring Night’ in July.

VIP:

Jang Nara & Lee Sang Yoon are positively reviewing the offer from SBS’s upcoming drama ‘VIP’.

The drama is an office mystery drama that follows the growth of working women as they run into troubles but work to get back up and move forward again.

It will air in early August.

The Great Show:

Song Seung Heon is positively reviewing the offer from tvN’s upcoming drama ‘The Great Show‘.

The drama will center around Wi Dae Han and his three other problematic siblings. It will portray the way the four imperfect individuals come together and unite as a family in a comedic yet touching way. 

The drama is scheduled to be broadcast in the second half of 2019.

Abyss:

Lee Si Eon confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Abyss‘ along with Park Bo Young & Ahn Hyo Seop.

The drama will be directed by Yoo Je Won (Oh My Ghost) and Written by Moon Soo Yun (Rude Miss Young Ae 9 & 10), It tells the story of a man and a woman who suddenly meet their death and are given another chance at life through soul-reviving beads in a magical abyss. By using the magic, their souls are reborn on earth, but they find themselves in completely different physical bodies.

It’s expected to air in the first half of this year.

Asdal Chronicles:

Kim Sung Chul & Lee Sung Woo confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama Asdal Chronicles.

The drama will be directed by Kim Won Suk PD (My Mister, Signal) and Written by Kim Young Hyun & Park Sang Yeon (Six Flying Dragons). It’s set in the fictional land of Aseudal during ancient times.
Eun Sum (Song Joong Ki) was born with a fate to bring disaster to Aseudal. Due to his mother’s struggles to save him, he goes through hardships and grows up. He appears again in Aseudal. Ta-Gon (Jang Dong Gun) is a war hero of Aseudal. He has paved the way for Aseudal to become a prosperous city nation and he is the most powerful person in Aseudal. He dreams of becoming the first king of Aseudal. Tan-Ya (Kim Ji Won) was born with the same fate as Eun-Sum. She is the successor of the Wahan Tribe. Going through hardships, she realized her mission. She lives under the highest honor and her ambition is to become a politician.

The drama will be released in the first half of this year.

Designated Survivor:

Son Seok Gu confirmed for tvN’s upcoming drama Designated Survivor a remake of American drama along with Ji Jin Hee & Heo Joon Ho

The drama is directed by Yoo Jung Sun PD (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and written by Kim Tae Hee (Beautiful Mind). It tells the story of Park Moo Jin, a former professor of chemistry and now holds the Minister of Environment position. He doesn’t have ambition, personal beliefs or political sense as a politician. One day, high ranking government officers are gathered for the President’s State of the Union address. An explosion then takes place, killing many government officials, including the President. He is the highest ranking government officer left alive. He doesn’t want the position, but he must sit as the acting president for 60 days. He chases after the person or group responsible for the explosion and he grows as a national leader.

The drama is expected to air in the first half of this year.

Doctor Prisoner:

Ryeoun confirmed for KBS’s upcoming drama Doctor Prisoner along with Nam Goong Min.

The drama will be directed by Hwang In Hyuk PD (Assembly) & Written by Park Kye Ok (Inspiring Generation). It tells the story of Na Yi Je (Nam Goong Min), a surgeon with excellent skills and has a kind personality. He gets involved in a medical accident which he did not cause. The medical accident leads him to get kicked out of the hospital where he works. He then begins work as the chief of a prison medical clinic.

The drama will air in March 20.

My Country:

Seolhyun & Jang Hyuk confirmed for JTBC’s upcoming sageuk drama My Country along with Yang Se Jong & Woo Do Hwan.

The drama will be written by Chae Seung Dae (Inspiring Generation, Master: God of Noodles) and directed by Kim Jin Won PD (The Innocent Man, Just Between Lovers, etc). It’s set during the end of the Goryeo period to the early Joseon period. It follows the story of two friends, Seo Hwi (Yang Se Jong) is a warrior who can’t stand injustice & Nam Sun-Ho (Woo Do-Hwan) is smart and a talented figure, he wants to pass the military service exam, but corruption by his father create misunderstandings between the two and it affects their friendship. Seolhyun will play as a woman skilled in martial arts.

The drama will air in the second half of the year.

Spring Night:

Kim Jun Han confirmed for MBC’s upcoming drama ‘Spring Night‘ along with Han JiMin & #Jung Hae In

The drama will be directed and written by ‘Something in the Rain’ PD & writer, It tells the story of a couple in their 30’s has dated for a long time and they begin to talk about getting married. They look back at their relationship and realize their love newly.

The drama will air in May.

Man Who Bakes Bread:

Seo Ji Hoon & Park Eun Bin are positively reviewing the offer from tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Man Who Bakes Bread’ along with Yook Sung Jae.

The drama will be written by Joo Hwa Mi (Marriage Not Dating) & Directed by Lee Jong Jae PD (100 Days My Prince), It’s about the romance, truth and lies surrounding a cat that can transform into a human, and its owner. The premise begins with a cat that only protects and looks after itself, and then becomes a human male one day. It is based on a webtoon titled “Welcome.”

The drama will air in the first half of 2019.

Kill it:

David LeeMcInnis confirmed as a killer in OCN’s upcoming drama Kill It along with Jang Ki Yong.

The drama is directed by Nam Sung Woo (100 Days My Prince) & Written by Son Hyun Soo & Choi Myung Jin. It tells the story of Kim Soo Hyun (Jang Ki Yong), an elite assassin. He kills his targets and disappears. His identity like race, age or name is unknown to others. Every organizations from all over the world wants to hire him. Do Hyun Jin (Nana) graduated at the top of her class from a police university. She is an excellent detective who is also arrogant. They come across each other, but
Do Hyun Jin starts to sympathize Kim Soo Hyun.

The drama will air in March 16.

Love Affairs in the Afternoon:

Park Ha Sun & Lee Sang Yeob confirmed for Channel A’s upcoming drama ‘Love Affairs in the Afternoon‘, a remake of a Japanese drama.

The drama will be written by Yoo So Jung and directed by Kim Jung Min (Bad Guys), It tells the story of Son Ji Eun, she moved to a small city due to her husband’s new job as a civil servant. She works part-time at a mart, she is quiet and sincere. Her life in the small city becomes boring. Her life is shaken by Yoon Jung Woo, a biology teacher at a local school.

The drama will air in the first half of this year.

Justice:

Sohn Hyun Joo & Choi Jin Hyuk in talk for KBS’s upcoming dramaJustice.

The drama will be directed by Jo Woong (Midsummer Night’s Dream) and written by Jung Chan Mi (Sassy Go Go), It tells the story of a man who embarks on a quest for revenge after losing his family.

The drama will air in July.

Her Private Life:

Ahn Bo Hyun wil replace Lee Kyu Hyung in tvN’s upcoming drama Her Private Life

The drama is directed by Hong Jang Chan PD (Dear My friends, Life) and It’s based on the webtoon “Noona Fan Dot Com” and It’s about a talented gallery curator named Sung Duk Mi (Park Min Young), who is an idol fangirl underneath her professional veneer. Meanwhile, her boss Ryan (Kim Jae Wook) becomes a passionate fanboy of her.

The drama will follow ‘Touch Your Heart’ in April.
